Profile: The Company OpenPattern is originally coming from the OpenPattern project which aims at developing and producing the first "open hardware" routing platform. This platform's architecture is based on an open architecture able to host different applications with the same generic hardware. Indeed, the hardware components are reconfigurable and reprogrammable as the applications changes or updates it-self to new features. This platform is based on a central FPGA which includes a basic operating system and embedded applications that control hardware devices such as the data communications bus and the network interfaces.
The founders of the OpenPattern company have many years of expertise in wireless networks with significant subcontracting in the french ISPs

Role in the project / Tasks Attributed: In the project, Open Pattern will be leader of WP5: software and communication system development. They will be involved in system specification (WP1) & in lab trials & troubleshooting (WP7). They will also provide to the RTOs technical support for the development of the NDT system. The will be partially involved in other WPs and will be directly involved in the take-up and exploitation of the developed system to their own advantage (WP8).

Previous experience relating to their role: The company OpenPattern has a strong expertise in wireless networks (802.11, 802.15.4 and PowerLineCommunications), embedded systems (based on Linux and BSD architecture) and Hardware architecture for telecommunications systems (ASICs, FPGAs, Layouts, EMC ...) which have been used on several R&D projects (submission to the technical start-up sponsorship, submission to national French research projects in communications for health-care
Benefits of participation to the project: As an SME, Open Pattern will be one of the direct beneficiaries of the scheme. They will outsource part of their research need by investing in research activities carried out by the RTD performers. The project is centred on their economic interest. And will open a new market opportunities in Rail industry and condition health monitoring

Profile of Staff undertaking the job: Dr. Abraham Suissa is an electronic systems expert, with strong background in embedded systems co-design (hardware, software) and wireless communications. He currently holds the post of Director of Technology and leads innovation development and technology strategy for OpenPattern. He has made significant contributions to the scientific community in the fields of Low Power Systems and Green Technologies.
